We proudly introduce Sunshine Huggins, the Inaugural Virginia Queen. Following her groundbreaking victory, Sunshine represented Virginia at the National competition, showcasing her leadership qualities and exceptional talent as a self-taught harpist. In her senior year at Smithfield High School, she is a shining example of ambition and dedication, with plans to pursue a major in music therapy and certify as a medical surgical technician. Sunshine embodies the spirit and resilience of Juneteenth, carrying its light and legacy throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is a true testament to the strength and dreams of her ancestors, believing wholeheartedly in the power of their legacy and the impact of her own journey.

Sunshine R. Huggins: A Harmonious Beacon of Hope and Empowerment
Meet the teen musical prodigy whose passion for the harp began at the age of eleven. Sunshine has transformed her talent into a powerful tool for healing, using her music to bring peace, happiness, and tranquility to those grappling with depression and anxiety, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 epidemic. As the Inaugural Miss Juneteenth Virginia Queen and the reigning Miss Juneteenth USA 2023-2024, Sunshine embodies a mission to elevate, educate, and empower, specifically highlighting Virginia's pivotal role in the story of Emancipation and the African American experience.
Sunshine’s academic and career aspirations are as multifaceted as her talents. She plans to attend Norfolk State University, pursuing a major in Music Therapy and certification as a Surgical Technician. This unique combination of disciplines exemplifies her desire to heal and enrich lives both through music and in the medical field.
Her achievements extend far beyond the academic realm. Sunshine is a celebrated figure in the Hampton Roads Community, having performed for notable figures like Virginia's former Lt. Governor, Justin Fairfax, and esteemed organizations like the William Tucker 1624 Society. Her engagements with historical and community groups underscore her commitment to cultural enrichment and historical awareness.
